OVERVIEW

Espruce aims to create a B2C grooming marketplace for customers around the globe. The app serves as a listing platform for salons and spas, enabling customers to book appointments with Salons and Spas.

Problem Statement

Espruce wanted to make the process of booking appointments with salons and spas smoother and easier, while addressing major issues faced by customers while finding a salon.

What happens when you wish to try a new salon service or new stylist for your hair? You'd be skeptic? Well you're not alone!

CUSTOMER RESEARCH AND SURVEY

Customer research helped us show the issues people faced while searching for a salon or beauty service in near them. Lack of information in the Indian beauty industry lead to limited options for the customers and often times disappointment.

  • Lack of trust

  • No legitimate information

  • No way available to try new services or find out which salons have better services.

  • Lack of information about stylists.

Asking the right questions

The process began by refining the problem statement and user research to better understand the needs of the user that we plan to address, the detailed user research conducted across salons and also through user interviews helped us in defining a clear scope for the project.

Not able to book appointments with the preferred stylists is pain-point that was seen common in all research groups, hence connecting them with their stylist did the job.

Providing the info about the availability of the stylists will reduce the revisits of the customers and the waiting time at the salon.

Our Challenges

Not losing the design elements while translating the design to the prototype was a big challenge. We went through multiple rounds of retouching the app to get the designs right.

Translating the data and insights into tangible features which would suit the user's need was a very big challenge that we faced over and over again.

Incorporating new insights and analysis in the designs with the limited time that we had, was also something that kept us up at nights and weekends.

Learnings

Transparent and clear communications is a must, especially when working with different teams, it is necessary to  clearly communicate the quality of work expected, timeline and constraints. Not communicating clearly can lead to rework on every end possible.

It's obvious to you doesn't mean it is obvious for everyone, assuming that everyone what is the next step or the right step in any situation can lead to problems and misunderstandings. As designers we might consider a lot of things obvious and understood but it might not be same for everyone.

Manage your time from Day 1.  We were able to reach all our goals and targets without compromising on sleep or most weekends simply because we were cautious of managing our time since the very first day.
